Hope that this might show the general idea of a "Flying Fox". This one is a bit more elaborate than most, but was a part of a commercial operation.
It is also the common name for the fruit bat, a small bat that is native to Australia, and lives on fruit and poses quite a few problems to orchards.

Not quite the zip-line I had imagined. But it does make me think of the thing they used in the movie "Shoot To Kill".

Hi fnl, yes it is something that I did as a teenager. I posted this in answer to questions from pita & indigo as they didnt know what the term meant. Also have used similar ideas in rescue training with the local emergency services in the past.
for Indigo, the pic shows a very bulky setup, as it was for heavy loads. The norm was for a single pulley block with a return (and sometimes a pulling ) rope with an appropriate container suspended underneath.
